Aviemore is the perfect base for a variety of all-year round outdoor activities – from gentler pursuits like a forest or lochside walk to the more energetic munro-climbing or quad-biking. A selection of popular outdoor activities which can be experienced within a short drive from Strathspey House are shown below.
Cairngorms is the most well-known wintersports centre in Scotland, with snow runs for all abilities and excellent facilities including the funicular railway. Skiing, snowboarding and even sledging are all perfect on Cairngorm with inspiring views over Glemore Forest.
Aviemore is an ideal base for a walking holiday. The area provides ample opportunities for all abilities – munro climbing, day hikes on the mountain range, beautiful lochside walks and peaceful forest trails.
There are eight golf courses within a fifteen mile radius of Strathspey House including the renowned Boat of Garten course and the new championship Spey Valley course in Aviemore. An annual golf pass providing discounts for all eight courses is available.
Loch Morlich and Loch Insh are both six miles from Strathspey House and offer an extensive range of non-motorised watersports from river canoeing to wind surfing. Tuition is available for beginners.
Pony trekking for all ages and abilites is available on the Rothiemurchus and Alvie Estates.
Exhilarating and fun quad biking treks and 4×4 off-road experiences take place at Rothimurchus and Alvie.
There are several National Nature Reserves in the area surrounding Aviemore. Bird life native to the area include golden eagles, osprey, ptarmigan, peregrines and the hen harrier.
Angling in the Cairngorms is a very popular pastime. The River Spey is arguably the finest salmon river in Scotland. Natural and stocked lochs are nearby with a fishery at Rothiemurchus which has equipment for hire.
An excellent clay shooting centre is to be found at a Victorian Lodge on the edge of the Rothiemurchus Estate with tuition available for beginners.
Numerous waymarked trails are to be found at Glenmore and Rothiemurchus. The number 7 National Cycle Route also passes through Aviemore. Local bike hire is available.
